Governor Adeleke Warns Against Renewed Ifon/Ilobu Clash

Osun State, Nigeria — Governor Ademola Adeleke has sounded a strong warning against attempts to reignite the communal clash between Ifon and Ilobu communities, emphasizing that peace must be upheld.

The Governor’s statement, issued by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, follows observations of rising tension in the affected areas despite ongoing security measures.

Governor Adeleke, addressing the issue on Monday, reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining stability, stating that any failure by the traditional rulers of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun to prevent further violence would result in their dethronement.

“In the spirit of the Eid celebration, I have received intelligence reports about individuals attempting to provoke fresh unrest in these communities,” Adeleke stated. “Security agencies are on high alert to prevent any outbreak of violence, and key figures involved in previous clashes are under interrogation.”

He further stressed that the peace agreements signed by community leaders are binding and will be strictly enforced. “These agreements are not mere formalities; those who violate them will be held accountable before the law,”  he warned.

Reflecting on the state’s security approach, Adeleke highlighted the recent relaxation of curfew measures as a humanitarian gesture, ensuring that innocent residents are not unduly affected. However, he cautioned against exploiting this adjustment for renewed violence, stating:

“If there is any attempt to use the eased curfew as an opportunity for further unrest, the state will immediately reinstate a full 24-hour curfew.”

Governor Adeleke also delivered a firm message to traditional rulers, warning that failure to control their subjects could have serious consequences.  “Any town where violence erupts again will witness the removal of its traditional ruler. This is non-negotiable. The responsibility of leadership comes with accountability,” he declared.

The statement concluded with a resolute call for community leaders and residents to prioritize peace, as the government remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
