Madrid, Spain — Real Madrid is reportedly preparing a significant transfer bid to secure Manchester United’s playmaker, Bruno Fernandes, in the upcoming window.
The Spanish club’s interest in Fernandes, who joined Manchester United from Sporting CP in January 2020, has intensified, with sources suggesting an imminent offer.
The 30-year-old Portuguese international has cemented his place as a key figure at Old Trafford, netting 95 goals and delivering 82 assists across 277 appearances. His contributions helped the Red Devils clinch the FA Cup in 2024 and the EFL Cup in 2023.
Despite some inconsistent moments, Fernandes has maintained an impressive form this season, registering 16 goals and 16 assists in 44 matches across all competitions. Former United captain Roy Keane has previously urged him to raise his game, yet Real Madrid remains convinced of his talent.
Reports from The Daily Star (via TEAMtalk) indicate that Madrid is prepared to table a £90 million offer for Fernandes. Portugal legend Paulo Futre recently described Fernandes as “an exemplary leader who despises losing” in an interview on United’s official website.
The reigning La Liga and Champions League holders have closely monitored Fernandes, sending scouts to assess his performances in every recent United fixture.
Although Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is reluctant to part ways with his captain, financial pressures could force the club’s hand. United’s management is reportedly open to significant sales to balance their books, making Fernandes a prime candidate for a high-profile departure.
Madrid sees Fernandes as a potential successor to 39-year-old Luka Modric, whose contract at the Santiago Bernabéu expires at the end of the season, though a renewal remains possible.
Should this deal materialize, it would surpass the £80 million fee United received for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, setting a new club-record sale for the English side.
The statement concluded with Real Madrid’s continued commitment to strengthening their squad with elite talents capable of maintaining their dominance in European football.
