OGUN STATE – Doyin Okupe, former media aide to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, will be laid to rest in his hometown, Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, on March 28, 2025.
According to an obituary obtained by PUNCH Online, the burial ceremonies will begin on March 22 with a commendation service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David, Abuja.
On March 27, a Service of Songs and a Day of Tributes will take place at Trinity House, Victoria Island, Lagos, at 11 a.m., followed by a wake at Agbonmagbe Castle, Sagamu-Iperu Road, Ogun State, at 4 p.m.
The following morning, Okupe’s remains will be laid in state at 9:30 a.m. at Agbonmagbe Castle. His funeral service will be held at Methodist Church, Akesan Road, Iperu-Remo, at 10 a.m., with interment to follow.
Okupe passed away in Lagos on March 7 at the age of 72. He served as a Special Assistant on Media and Publicity under President Obasanjo and later as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs during Jonathan’s administration. He was also the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign but resigned after being convicted of violating the Money Laundering Act.
Beyond politics, Okupe was a physician, co-founder of Royal Cross Medical Centre, and a former governorship aspirant in Ogun State under the Peoples Democratic Party.
