The Lagos State government has declared Monday, August 21, a work-free day for all Public Servants in its employ in commemoration of Isese Day.
Observed annually on the 20th of August, Isese Day celebrates the indigenous Yoruba culture and traditions as well as the preservation of the Yoruba heritage. This year’s observance falls on a Sunday.
According to a circular issued by the State Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the declaration of work free day by Governor Sanwo-Olu is a reaffirmation of his commitment to continue to provide necessary support to traditional institutions in the State with a view to promoting indigenous culture and tradition while preserving Yoruba heritage.
The circular announced that work will resume on Tuesday for all state workers.
The Ogun State House of Assembly recently passed a motion declaring Isese Day work free, while the Day has been work free in Osun State since 2013.
