Man Accuses Omoni Oboli of Copyright Infringement

NigeriaA Nigerian filmmaker and travel expert, Chime Chinedu Abumchukwu, has publicly accused Nollywood actress and producer Omoni Oboli of using his video clips without permission in her latest movie, Love in Every Word.

The controversy surfaced after YouTube initially took down Oboli’s film following a copyright claim by another individual, Chinonso Obiora Skyberry. While addressing the confusion surrounding the claim, Abumchukwu stated that he also discovered that parts of his works, including video clips from Awka, Amawbia, and Osumenyi, were used in the movie without his consent.

In a statement shared online, Abumchukwu congratulated Oboli on the success of her film but insisted that she should properly credit his work. He emphasized the importance of respecting intellectual property rights and urged the actress to acknowledge the source of the footage.

According to him, giving proper credit would not only resolve the issue amicably but also help promote Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. While he expressed his honor at having his work featured in the movie, he maintained that recognition and respect for creative ownership are crucial.

The development has sparked reactions on social media, with some users advising Abumchukwu to file a formal copyright claim, while others suggested that he should have contacted Oboli privately before going public.

This incident follows an earlier complaint by Oboli herself, where she accused some Ghanaian TV stations of airing her movies without authorization. She has yet to publicly respond to Abumchukwu’s demands.
