Nigeria: The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Tulia Ackson, has pledged to investigate the suspension of Nigerian Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, ensuring that both sides of the issue are considered before taking any necessary action
Ackson’s assurance came after Akpoti-Uduaghan appealed to the IPU and the United Nations (UN) for intervention, describing her suspension as unjust and an example of political victimization.
During the Women in Parliament session at the IPU meeting, Akpoti-Uduaghan shared her experience, stating that she was suspended after submitting a petition alleging sexual harassment against Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio. She emphasized that her suspension has severe consequences, including the loss of her security, official vehicles, salary, and restrictions from appearing near the National Assembly. Ackson acknowledged the concerns raised and assured that the IPU would review the matter after considering all perspectives, highlighting the organization’s commitment to fairness and due process.
