Supreme Court Dismisses PDP’s Appeal Against Aiyedatiwa

ONDOThe Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Agboola Ajayi, challenging the legitimacy of Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his running mate, Olayide Adelami, in the last Ondo State governorship election.

A five-member panel, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, ruled unanimously that the appeal lacked merit and that the appellants had no legal standing to contest Adelami’s nomination. The court imposed an N8 million fine on the PDP and Ajayi, awarding N2 million each to the four respondents—Adelami, Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP and Ajayi had alleged that Adelami submitted a forged West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate to INEC and had multiple identities. They sought to disqualify him and invalidate the APC’s joint ticket.

With this ruling, the Supreme Court has reaffirmed the validity of Aiyedatiwa and Adelami’s candidacy, bringing an end to the legal battle over their election.
