NAF Launches Probe into Personnel Involved in Ikeja Attack

Lagos, Nigeria  —   The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has initiated an investigation into the alleged assault on Ikeja Electric employees by its personnel following the disconnection of electricity supply to Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja.

The probe was announced by the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Adeniran Ademuwagun, in a statement addressing the incident.

Describing the attack as “unfortunate and unacceptable,” Ademuwagun assured that the culprits would face disciplinary measures.

“We are committed to a thorough investigation, and those found culpable will be appropriately sanctioned. The Nigerian Air Force prioritizes the safety and well-being of citizens, and no act of indiscipline will be condoned,” he stated.

He further apologized to the management of Ikeja Electric, reaffirming the Air Force’s commitment to fostering a peaceful working relationship with the electricity distribution company.

“Our dialogue with Ikeja Electric has been productive, and we will strengthen efforts to maintain positive control over our personnel,” Ademuwagun added.

The incident followed the disconnection of power to the Air Force base over an alleged N4 billion debt, accumulated over the past decade. Eyewitness reports indicated that the personnel stormed the company’s headquarters and Oshodi business unit, assaulting staff members and vandalizing properties.

Confirming the attack, Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications at Ikeja Electric, disclosed that about 15 employees, including a senior manager, were assaulted and arrested during the invasion.

He lamented that several appeals to the Air Force to settle the outstanding debt had been ignored, adding that the company would not compromise its services due to intimidation.

The NAF reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline and respect for the rule of law, assuring the public that necessary steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence.
