Nigeria: London, United Kingdom —Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed readiness to sign a critical minerals agreement with the United States, emphasizing its role in the country’s post-war recovery.
Speaking after a high-profile summit in London, Zelensky noted that the deal remains on the table, pending final commitments from both sides.
“The agreement is ready, and it will be signed once all parties are fully prepared,” he stated during a late-night briefing with British journalists, as reported by the BBC.
The proposed pact, aimed at facilitating Ukraine’s economic reconstruction through joint exploration and utilization of its mineral resources, was initially scheduled for formalization during Zelensky’s visit to Washington on Friday. However, discussions faltered after a tense Oval Office meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
European Leaders Reaffirm Support
Following the setback, Ukraine’s Western allies reiterated their commitment to Kyiv at a summit convened by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Sunday. European leaders pledged to bolster defense spending and explore diplomatic avenues for a potential ceasefire.
French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking in an interview, revealed that France and Britain were considering a proposal for a one-month partial truce with Russia, aimed at de-escalating tensions and creating room for negotiations.
The developments underscore Ukraine’s continued push for international support as it navigates economic and security challenges amid the prolonged conflict.
