Nigeria: Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of making inappropriate remarks towards her during a visit to his residence in Akwa Ibom in December.
According to Akpoti-Uduaghan, Akpabio held her hand while showing her around his house, and made suggestive comments, saying he would “create time for us to come create quality moments here. You will enjoy it”. Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed she pulled away, unsure of what he meant.
The allegations come amid a dispute between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio over her refusal to move to a newly assigned seat following the defection of two senators to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Akpabio had ordered her removal from the chamber, citing Senate Orders 24 and 6, which grant the Senate President authority to reassign seats. Akpoti-Uduaghan protested under Order 10, claiming her privileges had been breached.
