Man Drowns in Ogun Well While Attempting to Retrieve Phone

Ogun State  —   The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the drowning of a 31-year-old man, Sunday Jimoh, who lost his life while attempting to recover a phone from a well in Oja-Odan.

The incident occurred on February 22, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m., according to a statement released on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola.

Eyewitness Kabiru Aladeshayi Ayigbere reported the tragedy, stating that he saw Jimoh preparing to descend into a well beside his shop despite warnings about the risk.

“Jimoh was determined to retrieve a phone that had accidentally fallen into the well,” Odutola explained. “Sadly, while Aladeshayi was away, he entered the well and drowned.”

Police detectives swiftly responded to the scene, coordinating with rescue teams to recover the body. A preliminary investigation ruled out foul play, confirming that it was an unfortunate accident.

Jimoh’s family has been informed of the incident and has requested to bury him in line with Muslim rites.

The Ogun State Police Command extended its condolences to the bereaved family and urged the public to exercise caution in similar situations to prevent such tragedies.
