Ogun, Nigeria — The Vice Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola has called on the alumni of the institution to be committed to supporting the initiatives that are tailored towards enhancing academic excellence and the university’s further development.
Agboola said that as major stakeholders, the alumni should always endeavour to mark their anniversaries with laudable projects to support the government in its desire to creating a conducive teaching and learning environment in institutions.
The Vice-Chancellor said this on Thursday at the 30th anniversary and reunion of the 1994 set of medical doctor graduates of Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences of the university marked with the commissioning of newly built Neonatal ward and renovated college auditorium held at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
Agboola disclosed, “We appreciate the old students for supporting the present administration’s initiatives, we would like to call on others to emulate this initiative to support the government in its bid to create enviable conducive environment for teachers and learners.”
“Giving back to Alma mater is one of the ways through which many lives can be impacted since many students from different homes and backgrounds would benefit from such kind gestures.
“We quite appreciate this lofty and humanitarian efforts of these selfless alumni, it is a remarkable way to lend a helping towards helping with the continued infrastructural development of the university and we hope that others will emulate this highly encouraging selfless disposition”.
The VC however enjoined lecturers and the learners to imbibe maintenance culture by ensuring that the facilities are properly utilized and maintained as this would spur other donors and stakeholders to do more for the university’s development.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director, OOUTH, Dr. Olubunmi Fatugase appreciated the donor for the initiative, saying that the Neonatal ward project would help reduce child mortality.
Similarly, the Provost of the College, Prof. Bolanle Fetuga said that the projects were gifts that would impact generations of students for years to come.
Fetuga that the projects would provide improved environment for learning where minds will be moulded, ideas shared and innovations sparked.
The Chairman, OACHS Local Organising Committee for the reunion, Prof. Akinbami Olusegun said that the 1994 set of Medical Doctors of the university decided to celebrate the 30 years anniversary with these laudable projects that worth N40m as way of giving back to the society while supporting the government in creating conducive environment for learning.
In their separate messages, Prof. Olanrwwaju Adenekan and Prof. Adebiyi Olowu appreciated the donors for their contributions towards promoting qualitative healthcare delivery while also helping to support the infrastructural development of the university.
