NIGERIA’s First Lady meets rescued Chibok girl Rebecca.

Rear Admiral Yaminu Musa, the Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), led a delegation which included the recently rescued Chibok girl, Rebecca Kubu, on a visit to the First Lady at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

22-year-old Rebecca was rescued from Boko Haram insurgents by the Nigerian Army in Cameroon.

She was 13 years old when she was abducted alongside 276 other girls in 2014, when insurgents attacked a government secondary school in Chibok, Borno State.

As time passed, a number of these girls succeeded in escaping their captors, while others were eventually freed as a result of combined initiatives from civil society organizations and government negotiations.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, conveyed gratitude to God for the safe return of Rebecca to her family and extended appreciation to the Nigerian Army and intelligence agencies for their relentless efforts in ongoing rescue missions for the remaining missing Chibok girls.

Highlighting the significance of education, particularly for girls, Senator Oluremi said Rebecca would have the opportunity to continue her learning through her foundation, the Renewed Hope Initiative.

The Foundation will ensure Rebecca’s education proceeds at her own pace, allowing her to complete her secondary education, she said.

Rear Admiral Yaminu Musa disclosed that Rebecca had undergone a comprehensive medical screening and evaluation conducted by medical and psychological experts after her rescue. “The assessment confirmed her well-being and readiness to be reunited with her family in Chibok, located in the Borno state”, he announced.

Rear Admiral Yaminu emphasized that the NCTC, along with the National Security Adviser (NSA), will continue to provide support and follow-up for Rebecca and other rescued individuals.

The meeting was also attended by Hajiya Nana Shetima, the wife of the Vice President.
