Lagos, Nigeria — The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Princess Mojisola Meranda, has firmly dismissed speculation surrounding her resignation, reaffirming her position as the presiding officer of the legislative body.
Reacting to widespread rumors, the Speaker, through her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, clarified that she remains actively engaged in her duties and has not stepped down from office.
“I am in the office, carrying out my responsibilities as Speaker,” Ajiboye stated on her behalf. “There is no truth to these claims. The Speaker is fully at her desk, and normal legislative activities are ongoing.”
Describing the reports as baseless, Ajiboye emphasized that the Speaker had no intention of resigning and denounced the claims as “a lie from the pit of hell.”
The speculation intensified following the circulation of an unsigned document, dated February 17, 2025, purportedly announcing Meranda’s resignation. However, investigations into the document revealed inconsistencies, raising doubts about its authenticity.
The Lagos State House of Assembly has been embroiled in a leadership crisis following the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru by 36 lawmakers. The situation has fueled various narratives, but Meranda’s office has assured the public of her continued leadership.
