Kaduna, Nigeria — The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria has raised concerns over the impact of the get-rich-quick mentality on youth enrollment in the organization.
Dr. Abraham Haruna Gaga, the newly elected President of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Kaduna Council, made this known during a media briefing yesterday. He described online fraud, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo, as a generational crisis luring young boys away from meaningful pursuits.
Gaga lamented that many committed members have abandoned the brigade due to peer pressure, stressing the urgent need to address the issue. He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to educating youth on the dangers of quick-money schemes and guiding them toward productive engagements.
“We are working to help young people use technology positively. Our goal is to instill the dignity of labor and encourage them to invest their time in meaningful activities,” he stated.
The Brigade’s strategy includes sensitization campaigns, community development initiatives, and mentorship programs aimed at discouraging illegal activities. Gaga also vowed to combat sexual immorality and drug abuse, emphasizing that discipleship and moral upbringing will be central to their programs.
“We will intensify awareness efforts to promote hard work, self-belief, and a culture of integrity among Nigerian youth,” he added.
Meanwhile, the immediate past president, Solomon Ayodele Olukotun, decried rising insecurity in northern Nigeria, which has disrupted the Brigade’s routine training programs. He urged the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to redouble their efforts in tackling insecurity nationwide.
