Abuja, Nigeria — The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) has introduced a comprehensive empowerment program aimed at equipping widows and women across Nigeria with essential skills for financial independence.
Announcing the initiative in Abuja, NCWS National President, Princess Edna Azura, highlighted its alignment with the Renewed Hope Initiative of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. She emphasized that the training seeks to provide women with practical skills, enabling them to become self-reliant entrepreneurs.
“The goal is to equip women with expertise in producing oil perfumes, germicides, and antiseptics,” Princess Azura stated. “By acquiring these skills, they can establish sustainable businesses and improve their livelihoods.”
She further underscored NCWS’s commitment to providing post-training mentorship, ensuring that participants receive continuous support in their entrepreneurial journey.
Expressing appreciation to donors and partners, Princess Azura called for additional support to expand the initiative nationwide, reaching more underprivileged women.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to promoting economic opportunities for women. She cited ongoing projects such as the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) and the National Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy, which have already extended support to 30 states and positively impacted thousands of female entrepreneurs.
Represented by the Special Assistant, Technical, Women Affairs and Community Engagement, Dr. Jummai Donije, the minister stressed the broader objectives of women’s empowerment beyond financial independence.
“Beyond economic benefits, we are strengthening family structures, improving care for the elderly, and enhancing orphanage operations to safeguard vulnerable children,” Dr. Donije noted.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of starter packs to 50 beneficiaries, marking the beginning of a phased expansion to other states.
The NCWS reaffirmed its commitment to scaling up the program, ensuring that more Nigerian women gain access to resources that enhance their financial stability and overall well-being.
