Kano, Nigeria — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has named Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), entrusting him with a critical role in steering Kano’s administrative and developmental objectives.
The appointment, set to take effect on Monday, February 10, 2025, was formally announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday.
The statement emphasized Ibrahim’s extensive experience in public administration, spanning more than three decades, and highlighted his capacity to enhance governance and policy execution in the state.
Ibrahim’s journey in public service began in 1987, with his career marked by several high-profile leadership positions. Between 2001 and 2015, he served as the Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, where he played a pivotal role in shaping policy direction.
His tenure continued as Permanent Secretary for the Administration and General Services Directorate from 2015 to 2016, during which he also acted as SSG in 2013 and 2014 during official transitions.
Beyond his administrative duties, Ibrahim has contributed to strategic initiatives, including the Coordinating Committee on Independent Power and the Committee on the Identification and Sale of Government Property, further demonstrating his commitment to governance and state development.
An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, with a B.Sc in Political Science, Ibrahim’s academic background is bolstered by multiple professional certifications.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in his appointee’s expertise, stating that Ibrahim’s experience and strategic vision would play a crucial role in actualizing the administration’s development agenda for Kano State.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to effective leadership and institutional strengthening.
