Abuja, Nigeria — The National Universities Commission (NUC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Daimlas Corporation, a global AI leader, to develop a robust artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem across Nigerian universities.
The partnership aims to equip academic institutions with advanced AI resources, foster research, and provide a structured platform for AI-driven education.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Abuja, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, Executive Secretary of the NUC, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to the initiative, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize higher education.
“We are delighted to embark on this journey. AI is reshaping global industries, and integrating it into our universities will prepare students for the future,” Professor Ribadu stated.
Joseph Wehbe, Chief Executive Officer of Daimlas Corporation, highlighted the strategic role of academia in AI innovation. He noted that an effective AI ecosystem consists of research centers, AI labs, entrepreneurial programs, and platforms for small businesses and students, ensuring widespread participation in the AI economy.
“The structure of an AI ecosystem differs from traditional ICT ecosystems,” Wehbe explained. “Academia drives AI research, and this platform will provide pathways for every university in Nigeria to engage in AI advancements.”
Wehbe revealed that Daimlas currently operates five AI ecosystems in the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, with two additional projects already underway in collaboration with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Innovation.
He assured universities of Daimlas’ ongoing support in integrating AI into their curricula, pledging full engagement to ensure the initiative’s success.
