Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its planned nationwide protest against the recent 50% increase in telecommunications tariffs.
The decision followed a meeting with government officials at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Monday night.
A statement issued by the office’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, confirmed the outcome of the discussions.
As part of the resolutions, the government agreed to form a broader committee to review the tariff structure. The committee will include five representatives each from the NLC and the government and is expected to present its findings within two weeks.
The NLC emphasized that future actions, including potential protests, boycotts, or service withdrawals, will be determined by the committee’s recommendations.
While the labour union has put its planned strike on hold, it reiterated its concerns over rising electricity tariffs and excessive taxation, stressing that these economic challenges must still be addressed.
