INEC Meets Parties Ahead of Anambra Governorship Election

Abuja, NigeriaThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that party primaries for the upcoming Anambra State Governorship election will take place from March 20 to April 14, 2025.

The announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, during a meeting with political party leaders in Abuja. He urged the parties to submit their schedules to INEC to facilitate efficient planning and coordination for personnel deployment and resource management during primaries and campaign activities.

“The timetable and schedule of activities for the Anambra State Governorship election were released last year by INEC,” Professor Yakubu emphasized.

Professor Yakubu also revealed that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections are set for February 21, 2026. Voters across 68 constituencies will elect six Area Council Chairmen and 62 Councilors, with polling to take place in all designated units.

Additionally, he disclosed plans for continuous voter registration and the conduct of outstanding bye-elections, noting that details would be made public soon.

 

IPAC Chairman Calls for Early 2027 Election Preparations

In his remarks, the National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle, urged INEC to begin early preparations for a credible and transparent general election in 2027.
