BREAKING: FC Porto Sack Coach Vitor Bruno

Porto, Portugal —   FC Porto has announced the dismissal of head coach Vitor Bruno, making him the third manager from Portugal’s top three clubs to lose his job this season.

The 42-year-old took charge of the team at the start of the season, succeeding Sergio Conceição, who moved to AC Milan. However, Bruno’s tenure was cut short following a string of poor results, including consecutive league defeats that derailed Porto’s title challenge.

Porto confirmed that José Tavares, the club’s academy director, will step in as interim coach.

The decision to sack Bruno came after a disappointing 3-1 loss to Gil Vicente on Sunday, marking Porto’s third consecutive defeat across all competitions. Earlier this month, they were also eliminated from the League Cup by Sporting Lisbon in the semi-finals on January 7.

Currently, Porto sits third in the league standings, four points behind leaders Sporting Lisbon, with Benfica overtaking them to secure second place over the weekend.

Despite their domestic struggles, Porto remains among the 32 teams set to compete in the expanded 2025 Club World Cup in the United States, scheduled from June 15 to July 13. Their next challenge comes on Thursday, as they face Olympiacos in the Europa League.
