The Association of Modern Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria has called for the passage its bill before the National Assembly to remove all barriers hindering the growth of traditional medicine in Nigeria.
The National President of the Association, Dr Ibrahim Nakowa made the call during its annual meeting in Abuja.
Dr Nakowa observed that if the traditional medicine Practitioners were being empowered as necessary, they would have bridged the gaps being created by the strike embarked by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
“The message is to call on Federal Government through the National Assembly to sign the Modern Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria (MTMPN) bill before them. We have over 70% of traditional medicine person in Nigeria because many sickness and problems are being resolved through the traditional medicine. We are calling on government to support us as the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has embarked on strike to save Nigerians with our medical help.” He added.
The National Secretary General, Dr Bamidele Fatoye, called on state governors to support the exercises to boost traditional medicine practitioners across the country.
The Vice President, South-South, Dr Patrick Ebason, expressed the hope that President Bola Tinubu would give accelerated assent to the bill.
“Now it is our turn for the President to help us in moving traditional medicine forward, we are asking President to support us because we worked for it.” He said.
