Brussels, Belgium — The Belgian Football Federation has announced the dismissal of Domenico Tedesco as head coach of the senior national team, following disappointing performances in recent competitions.
In a statement released by the federation, the decision was attributed to the team’s underwhelming results in the Nations League and at Euro 2024, where Belgium exited in the round of 16 after a defeat to France.
“After a detailed evaluation, the RBFA Sports Committee has decided to end its collaboration with national coach Domenico Tedesco,” the statement read. “This decision was approved by the Board of Directors, and the search for his successor is now underway.”
Tedesco, appointed in February 2023 as a replacement for Roberto Martinez after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, started his tenure strongly with a 13-game unbeaten streak. However, the disappointing Euro 2024 campaign overshadowed his initial success.
Reflecting on his tenure, the 39-year-old described his time with the team as “a beautiful journey” that had “unfortunately come to an end.”
“This team is still at the beginning of its development and will make waves in the coming years,” Tedesco said. “I wish the players, federation staff, and fans all the best from the bottom of my heart.”
The Belgian Football Federation concluded the statement by reiterating its commitment to identifying a coach capable of guiding the team to future success.
