Troops Destroy Bello Turji’s Base in Zamfara State

Zamfara State  —  Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, North West Operation Fansan Yamma, have successfully dismantled terrorist hideouts in Fakai, Shinkafi Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

The operation, conducted on January 10, 2025, is part of intensified military efforts to combat banditry and restore stability to the region.

In a statement released on Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Operation Fansan Yamma, confirmed the success of the offensive.

According to Abdullahi, the operation, supported by the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji, targeted camps in the Fakai axis, including those of notorious bandit leaders Bello Turji and Mallam Ila.

During the assault, over 25 terrorists were neutralized, while more than 18 others sustained injuries. Additionally, seven kidnapped victims managed to escape from the camps amid the military action, dealing a significant blow to the terrorist network.

Operation Fansan Yamma reiterated its commitment to pursuing and neutralizing terrorist elements in its area of operation. It warned terrorist leaders and their collaborators to surrender and renounce violence unconditionally.

The military reassured citizens of its dedication to restoring peace and security across affected communities.

Bello Turji’s Reign of Terror

Bello Turji, a notorious bandit leader operating in northwestern Nigeria, has been linked to various terrorist activities in Zamfara State, particularly in Fakai.

Turji’s actions have led to mass casualties, displacement of residents, and severe disruption of local economic activities. His reign has instilled widespread fear in the region.

In response, Nigerian military forces have intensified efforts to neutralize his influence. Despite progress, Turji and his group continue to pose a significant threat to the region’s security.

A Wanted Man

The Nigerian government has officially declared Turji a wanted man, with military officials describing him as a “dead man walking.” This highlights the high priority placed on his apprehension.

The situation in Fakai and nearby areas remains volatile as the military sustains operations to eliminate Turji and his associates.

Authorities have called on citizens to support security efforts by providing timely and accurate information to aid the fight against banditry and terrorism in the region.
