New Zealand, co-hosts of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup have crashed out of the competition after drawing with Switzerland in Group A.
Before kickoff, New Zealand were second in the group but Norway’s convincing 6-0 victory over the Philippines ensured that the co-host got knocked out at the group state.
With New Zealand out of the competition, it makes them the first host nation to be evicted at the group stage in the history of the competition.
Though the tournament co-host started the competition well by defeating Norway 1-0 in their opening match but a shock 1-0 loss on Tuesday against the Philippines, the lowest ranked nation in Group A, left New Zealand’s qualification in the balance.
The players came out with the believe that a win will guarantee their qualification to the next round but a tame performance ensured that they bow out of the competition at the earliest stage.
