The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has rejected the N25, 000 accoutrement allowance per quarter from the Federal Government.
In a communique on Sunday, National Executive Council (NEC) of NARD, emphasised that their prior demand is for the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure to be fully restored to its right value as at the time of the approval of the structure in 2009.
The doctors also insisted that the ongoing nationwide strike will not end unless the government made reasonable progress towards addressing their demands as outlined in their ultimatum delivered to the federal government on July 5.
“NEC vehemently rejects the paltry 25 per cent increment in the basic salary of doctors, as well as the accoutrement allowance, adding that her earlier demand is for full restoration of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure to its right value as at the time of the approval of the structure in 2009,” the communique read in part.
The Federal Government on Friday approved the payment of N25,000 peculiar allowance for medical and dental doctors in hospitals, medical centres and clinics in the federal public service.
The Association had on Wednesday embarked on an indefinite strike demanding the immediate payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund, upward review of consolidated medical salary structure (CONMESS) among other demands.
