Enyimba FC has confirmed the signing of former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye, marking a strategic move to strengthen the team ahead of crucial fixtures. The announcement was made on Monday via the club’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Ideye, 36, who last featured for Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022, will don the number 34 jersey for the Aba-based club.
“We are delighted to officially welcome former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye to Enyimba,” the statement read. “His experience and professionalism will undoubtedly bolster our squad as we aim for success in the remainder of the season under new management.”
The signing comes amid a wave of changes at Enyimba, including the recent appointment of veteran coach Stanley Eguma. Eguma replaced Yemi Olanrewaju, who departed following a nine-match winless run.
The acquisition of Ideye underscores Enyimba’s determination to revamp its fortunes in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the CAF Confederation Cup.
This move marks Ideye’s return to the NPFL after 17 years. He last played in the league for Ocean Boys in 2006 before launching a successful career in Europe. Notably, Ideye was part of Nigeria’s victorious squad at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), cementing his legacy in the nation’s football history.
