5 Rescued in Lagos Christmas Day Accident

Five individuals narrowly escaped tragedy on Christmas Day following a collision between two commercial buses at Iyana-Era, along the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, attributing the cause to excessive speeding and brake failure in one of the buses.

According to LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Adebayo Taofiq, the T4 commercial bus (LSD 668 YE) was speeding towards Agbara when its brakes failed, resulting in a collision with a stationary LT bus (BDG 728 YE) loading passengers at the Iyana-Iba bus stop.

LASTMA officials promptly rescued five severely injured passengers—three men and two women—and transported them to Eva-Life Hospital near Iyana-Era for urgent medical care.

Security personnel from the Ijanikin Police Division assisted during the rescue operation, ensuring safety and order at the scene.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy to the victims and wished them a speedy recovery. He emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly brake inspections, to prevent similar accidents.

Drivers and road users were urged to contact LASTMA via its toll-free hotline, 080000527862, for traffic-related emergencies or assistance.
