Oyo Stampede:President Tinubu called for comprehensive investigation as he mourns

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for commencement of investigation into the tragic stampede at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, which resulted in the deaths of 35 children.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed his deep sorrow, stating, “This is an incredibly painful moment for our nation.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families experiencing this unimaginable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as we collectively mourn this tragedy.

“Our children’s safety and well-being remain paramount. No event should ever compromise their safety or take precedence over their lives,” the President said.

The President offered prayers for the victims, hoping that “the Almighty God will grant peace to the souls of those who have departed in this unfortunate event.”

He stressed the importance of determining whether negligence or deliberate actions contributed to the disaster, calling for a transparent and accountable process.

The President also urged the Oyo State Government to implement measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

These include a comprehensive review of safety protocols for public events, strict enforcement of safety regulations, and regular audits of event venues.

President Tinubu further called on event organisers nationwide to prioritise the safety of attendees, particularly children, by integrating professional security, protocol, and logistics measures into their planning.
