The Katsina State Government has disbursed over N1.9 billion to clear outstanding bursary allowances for students across the state, marking a significant investment in education.
Governor Umaru Dikko Radda announced the initiative at the official launch of N744.1 million in bursary payments for 2022/2023 new students and 2023/2024 continuing students. The event, held at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), also saw the introduction of special scholarships for students with disabilities and the second edition of the Academic Excellence Awards for high-achieving students.
In his address, Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving education access and quality for all children in Katsina. “Education is the key to securing our state’s future,” he said, emphasizing the government’s resolve to eliminate financial obstacles to learning.
The governor highlighted the success of the state’s scholarship program, noting that seven Katsina-sponsored students in Egypt ranked among the top 10 in their institutions. He urged students to focus on discipline, hard work, and moral integrity while cautioning against the misuse of social media.
Governor Radda also extended gratitude to individuals and groups who have supported students, particularly those impacted by challenges such as banditry.
Earlier, Aminu Salisu Tsauri, Executive Secretary of the Scholarship Board, detailed the administration’s expenditure on bursaries. Since 2019, over N3.15 billion has been spent on allowances for more than 236,000 students.
This initiative underscores Katsina State’s commitment to fostering educational advancement and ensuring financial constraints do not impede students’ academic goals.
