The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued 23 kidnapped victims in separate operations in Katsina and Akwa Ibom States, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to combating crime. The Force’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the rescues in a statement.
In Katsina State, 20 abductees were freed in two operations on December 7. At about 7:00 PM, police operatives intercepted armed bandits along the Katsina-Magamar Jibia Road. The assailants had opened fire on a vehicle carrying 10 passengers in an attempt to abduct them. Police engaged the attackers in a gunfight, forcing them to flee with gunshot wounds, and all passengers were rescued unhurt.
Later that evening, around 8:30 PM, another ambush occurred on the Funtua-Gusau Road. Bandits targeted a second vehicle carrying 10 passengers. Police operatives quickly mobilized, engaging the assailants in a fierce gun battle, and rescued the victims without any injuries.
In Akwa Ibom State, two operations also led to successful rescues. On December 4, police saved a young woman abducted by a suspect identified as Abraham Patrick Francis, who allegedly intended to traffic her into forced prostitution in a neighboring country. The victim was reunited with her family, and the suspect was arrested.
On December 5, officers raided a kidnappers’ hideout in Amayam and Ikot Ukpong Villages, freeing two victims unharmed. During the raid, police recovered a locally fabricated double-barrel gun, a pistol, and five live cartridges. Two suspected kidnappers were neutralized in an ensuing gunfight.
The police commended the bravery of its operatives and reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects involved in both states.
