The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya, has called for increased participation of women in leadership positions within the Union and beyond.
Speaking at a “Thank-You Party” organized by the newly-elected executives of the NUJ Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council in Abuja, Comrade Yahya emphasized the need to foster inclusivity and diversity in leadership roles.
“We must provide opportunities for women to showcase their talents and lead effectively,” Yahya stated. “I have full confidence in the capabilities of Grace Ike and her team. Their experience, vision, and determination will undoubtedly help them deliver on their promises.”
He further reiterated his commitment to supporting the FCT Council and advancing the Union’s goals, emphasizing unity and collective effort as essential for progress. Under his leadership, he assured members that innovative reforms, inclusivity, and professional excellence would remain top priorities to enhance members’ welfare and bolster the credibility of journalism in Nigeria.
Grace Ike, who recently made history as the first female Chairperson of the NUJ-FCT Council, expressed gratitude for the President’s encouragement and pledged her dedication to upholding the Union’s principles.
The event, attended by journalists, stakeholders, and well-wishers, served as a platform to celebrate the progressive vision of the new NUJ leadership in the FCT and highlight the importance of collaboration in moving the Union forward.
