The Kano State Government has alleged federal involvement in the blockade of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s palace by heavily armed security operatives on Friday.
The incident unfolded when personnel from the Police and Department of State Services (DSS) barricaded the palace gates, reportedly preventing the Emir from traveling to a traditional event in Bichi Local Government Area. Despite the blockade, Emir Sanusi led the Friday congregational prayer at Kano Central Mosque, located outside the palace.
State Government Reacts
Speaking on a local radio program, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, condemned the blockade, describing it as a threat to the state’s peace.
“It is shocking to wake up and find the palace of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II sealed off by security operatives,” Bichi stated. “Kano remains peaceful, but this is the handiwork of a few individuals backed by Abuja who do not want harmony in our state.”
Bichi revealed that the Emir intended to accompany the newly appointed district head of Bichi to his domain, but the blockade derailed the plans. Security operatives at the scene reportedly cited “orders from above,” which Bichi attributed to interference by the Federal Government.
Warning Against Interference
The SSG reaffirmed Kano’s commitment to peace and cautioned against external interference. “The people of Kano will not tolerate any disruption of our affairs,” Bichi declared. “The Emir’s appointment of the district head remains valid, and we will ensure he reaches his domain.”
Awaiting Official Responses
While the Kano State Police Command has not commented on the security presence, the Federal Government has yet to issue an official statement addressing the allegations.
