The Commissioner of Police , Olatunji Disu, has issued a strict warning against the unauthorized use of tinted windows and covered or tampered number plates in Abuja. He announced that violators would face severe sanctions as part of the police’s efforts to curb rising criminal activities in the city.
During a press briefing in Abuja, Disu stressed that the enforcement is aimed at combating the increasing threat posed by “one chance” criminals—individuals who pose as taxi drivers to abduct unsuspecting passengers. He noted that vehicles with obscured windows and number plates often facilitate such crimes by concealing the identity of perpetrators.
Since the deployment of the command’s specialized tactical team, 296 vehicles have been impounded for various offences, including illegal tinted windows, missing license plates, and tampered number plates.
Disu reiterated that the ongoing crackdown is essential for improving public safety and deterring criminal elements within the FCT. “This enforcement is not just about compliance but a necessary measure to ensure the safety and security of all residents,” he stated.
