An established educational body in NIGERIA, National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has vows to address the failure in Mathematic and English language courses in senior secondary schools through training and capacity building of teachers .
While reacting, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr Tyela Ajayi stated this in Kano during the commencement of a five-day training for selected English and Mathematics teachers in senior secondary schools within the North West Zone of Nigeria.
He said the training would equip the teachers with modern requisite to transfer the knowledge on their students to enable them pass the subjects during their final secondary school examinations.
Dr Tyela Ajayi noted that a teaching manual for Mathematics and English Language teachers have been developed to enhance their methodology/pedagogical skills in the two core subjects.
” There is a ray of challenges that some Teachers of Mathematics and English language have the habit of skipping certain topics just because they cannot teach them and thus making students to lack of understanding in such topics. Hence, the persistent poor performance of leaners during examinations.”
He added that the National Senior Secondary Education Commission was committed to delivering quality education to meet international standards.
The Kano State Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Doguwa represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Kubra Imam said the training is apt, and that the State Government was geared towards having a bright feature for the students.
