The Nigerian Army has achieved significant success in the fight against terrorism, as troops have successfully neutralized a notorious terrorist commander, Munzur Ya Audu, in Yobe State, along with 114 other militants in various strategic operations across the country.
Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, shared this information during a press briefing in Abuja, detailing the military’s accomplishments over the past week.
The operations conducted by the troops focused on targeting terrorist logistics hubs and other facilities associated with insurgent activities, aiming to dismantle operational capabilities and disrupt terror networks. The results of these operations are as follows:
– 115 terrorists were neutralized
– 238 suspects were arrested
– 138 kidnapped hostages were rescued
– Significant weaponry was recovered, including 145 assorted weapons, 3,825 rounds of ammunition, grenades, RPG bombs, and other explosive devices.
In specific regions of the country, the military carried out successful operations:
– In the North-East (Operation Hadin Kai), 61 terrorists were neutralized, 34 suspects were arrested, and 32 kidnapped hostages were rescued.
– In the North-Central (Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke), 18 violent extremists were neutralized, 48 suspects were captured, and 48 kidnapped hostages were rescued.
– In the North-West (Operation Hadarin Daji), 28 terrorists were killed, 77 were apprehended, and 57 kidnapped hostages were rescued.
Additionally, air interdictions were conducted on the hideouts of high-profile terrorist leaders in Katsina State’s Safana and Batsari areas, resulting in the destruction of critical structures and the neutralization of several insurgents.
