Pardoned Kano Protesters Undergo Five-Day Rehabilitation

Following the release of 63 minors detained over their involvement in the August #EndBadGovernance protests, the Kano State government has announced a five-day rehabilitation program for them at the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital. Governor Abba Yusuf, who arrived in Kano from Abuja with the minors on Tuesday night, stated that they would remain under medical care and receive psychological support before being returned to their families.

The minors were transported directly to the hospital, which features West Africa’s largest cancer treatment center, where they will receive round-the-clock attention from medical professionals. Governor Yusuf noted that the government had provided all necessary facilities and personnel to assist in their recovery, recognizing the trauma many of them endured. “We want you to return to your normal selves,” he told the minors during a special reception, explaining that the program would help restore their well-being.

In addition to rehabilitation, the governor pledged to support the minors’ education and vocational training. Officials from the Ministry of Education will assess their current educational levels during their stay. For those not enrolled in school, the government plans to provide vocational skills training and startup kits to enable them to pursue a trade.

Governor Yusuf also urged the young detainees to avoid future involvement in violence, encouraging them to become positive role models for their peers. He assured the group that, once they are in good health, they will be reunited with their families.

During the evening, the governor shared a meal with the minors and distributed clothing, toiletries, and other necessities. He added that tailors would visit the hospital to sew additional garments tailored to their needs.
