Paul Pogba’s four-year suspension for doping has been reduced to 18 months following a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
According to the BBC, the Juventus midfielder can resume training by January 2025 and is expected to be eligible for competitive play starting in March of the same year.
The French international was initially suspended in February by Italy’s national anti-doping tribunal (NADO) after a test revealed elevated levels of testosterone, a substance known for enhancing stamina.
Matthieu Reeb, CAS Director General, confirmed that the reduction in Pogba’s ban was finalized on September 11, 2023.
Pogba, who previously played for Manchester United, maintained during the appeal that he had not knowingly used banned substances and argued that the initial ruling was unjust.
Had the original four-year suspension been upheld, the 2018 World Cup winner would not have been able to return to football until 2027, when he would be 34 years old.
