The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 24-year-old welder, identified as Adedeji, who was electrocuted while working at a construction site in the Lagos Island area.
Police spokesperson, Superintendent Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed the details to reporters on Wednesday.
According to Hundeyin, the incident was reported to the Adeniyi Adele police division around 7:00 PM by a complainant who stated that his elder brother owns a plaza on Nnamdi Azikwe Street, Lagos Island, currently undergoing renovations. Adedeji had been hired to work at the site when the tragic incident occurred.
“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer led a patrol team and detectives to the scene, a two-storey building under renovation. The victim was working on the second floor when he was electrocuted,” Hundeyin said.
The impact of the shock reportedly caused severe burns to Adedeji’s legs, with his body thrown from the second floor to the first.
“Photographs were taken, and the body was immediately transported to Yaba General Hospital, where the attending doctor confirmed his death,” Hundeyin added.
The welder’s body has since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and an autopsy. Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing, according to police authorities.
