Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has called on the Federal Government to provide urgent assistance to victims of devastating floods in the Tangaza and Illela Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The floods, which have severely impacted 22 LGAs across the state, have caused extensive damage, with Tangaza and Illela being the hardest hit. Hundreds of homes and farmlands have been destroyed, leaving many residents homeless and contributing to an impending food crisis.
Governor Aliyu stressed the critical need for federal intervention to support the affected communities and help them recover from the disaster. He also urged residents to take preventive measures, such as clearing drainages and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of waste, to reduce the risk of future floods.
While describing the disaster as an act of God, the governor prayed for protection against further occurrences. Similar flooding incidents have been reported in Maiduguri, Borno State, where over 414,000 people have been displaced, and at least 30 lives have been lost.
