Markets in Ijesaland to Close for Seven Days Following Owa Obokun’s Passing

In the wake of the death of Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, markets across Ijesaland will be closed for seven days, according to High Chief Adebola Orolugbagbe, the Odole Owa of Ijesaland. The announcement was made at a press conference held on Friday in Ilesa, Osun State.

High Chief Orolugbagbe clarified that there will be no curfew imposed on the communities within Ijesaland. The markets will be shut from September 14 to September 20, 2024, and will resume normal operations on September 21, 2024.

Additionally, the traditional palace at Okemese will be closed immediately, with all activities suspended until further notice.

The transition rites for the late monarch will be observed for 90 days. High Chief Orolugbagbe described Oba Aromolaran II as a revered leader who led Ijesaland with distinction for 42 years, from 1982 to 2024. Under his reign, the region experienced notable peace, unity, and development.

Orolugbagbe called on all residents of Ijesaland to maintain peace and keep the royal family in their thoughts and prayers during this period of mourning.
