The community of Sapele in Delta State has been left in shock following the alleged murder of Mrs. Fatima Umukoro, proprietress of His Majesty Group of Schools, reportedly at the hands of her son, Emmanuel Umukoro.
The tragic incident occurred late on Saturday, with witnesses describing the scene as horrific. According to neighbors, Emmanuel was seen speeding out of the family compound around 8:30 p.m. in his mother’s car, raising concerns among residents.
Neighbors who initially sought to inform Mrs. Umukoro about her son’s reckless driving discovered something far more alarming. By 10:00 p.m., they noticed the gate to the residence unusually left open. Upon closer inspection, they found the house engulfed in flames with the door ajar.
Inside, they were met with the grim sight of Mrs. Umukoro’s body, burned beyond recognition. The police were immediately informed, and Emmanuel was later apprehended along the Sapele-Warri Road while attempting to flee.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest, stating that an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the alleged murder.
