Nigeria Clinches Bronze in Tennis at 2024 Paralympics

Isau Ogunkunle has won a bronze medal in the men’s para-table tennis event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, adding to Team Nigeria’s medal haul.

Ogunkunle reached the semi-finals but was defeated 3-1 by South Korea’s Young-Gun Kim, the world’s second-ranked player. Despite taking an early lead by winning the first set, Ogunkunle ultimately fell with scores of 11-9, 5-11, 4-11, and 11-13, narrowly missing a chance to push the match into a fifth set after forcing a tie-break in the fourth set.

In para-table tennis, both semi-final losers receive bronze medals without a play-off. Ogunkunle’s bronze marks Nigeria’s first singles Paralympic medal since Sydney 2000.

With this achievement, Nigeria’s total medal count at the Paralympics now stands at five, comprising one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.
