The NLC (National Labour Congress) has announced plans to convene a meeting to discuss the recent 45% hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) by the NNPCL (Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited).
The NLC is urging the NNPCL to revert the N855 and N897 increase in petrol pump prices.
The NLC president, Joe Ajaero, expressed discontent with the petrol price hike and stated that the organization’s appropriate organs will meet to make decisions that will be shared with the public.
The NLC also criticized the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing it of betrayal. The NLC is demanding the immediate reversal of the petrol price increase nationwide, as well as the release of protesters against bad governance and the rollback of the 250% electricity tariff hike implemented in April 2024. This latest development comes as Dangote Refinery’s petrol is introduced.
In response to these issues, the NLC and Trade Union Congress previously organized a nationwide shutdown in June 2024 in protest against economic hardship.
