Nigeria is poised to strengthen its bilateral relations with Indonesia as the Second Indonesia-Africa Forum opens in Bali from September 1-3, 2024.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, is leading Nigeria’s delegation to the forum on behalf of President Bola Tinubu. According to a statement by the minister’s media aide, Rabiu Ibrahim, the forum, themed “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2023,” pays tribute to the historic 1955 Asian-African Conference, known as the Bandung Conference, hosted by Indonesia.
During the event, Minister Idris will present Nigeria’s extensive investment opportunities across various sectors and emphasize the socio-economic benefits of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He is also set to advocate for increased participation of Nigerian businesses in the Indonesian market. Expressing optimism ahead of the forum, Idris noted that this year’s theme aims to align Indonesia’s Vision 2045 with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, highlighting the shared long-term goals of both regions.
Nigeria and Indonesia have developed a strong relationship over the years, underscored by Indonesia’s decision to prioritize Nigeria as its main African investment destination from 2022 to 2026. This commitment is reflected in the growing trade between the two nations, which reached $6 billion in 2023, up from $4 billion a decade earlier.
In 2023, Indonesia also demonstrated its support for Nigeria by donating 1.58 million doses of the Pentavalent vaccine, valued at nearly $2 million, significantly aiding Nigeria’s efforts to protect children from life-threatening diseases. The robust trade and cooperative efforts between the two countries underscore the deepening ties as they work towards mutual economic and social progress.
