The Kano State Government has issued an order for the immediate closure of all bank accounts operated by its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), with instructions to consolidate them into a single treasury account.
This directive was announced by Governor Abba Yusuf during a meeting held on Wednesday at the Government House in Kano. The governor cited financial irregularities uncovered in several ministries and agencies as the main reason behind the decision.
Governor Yusuf explained that the move is aimed at ensuring proper management of public funds and curbing any opportunities for financial misconduct. “The government has taken this action to safeguard the integrity of financial operations and eliminate potential avenues for corruption,” the governor stated.
He further warned that any MDA failing to comply with the directive within one week would face legal repercussions.
In addition, the Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Zayyid Abubakar, expressed confidence that the unified treasury account system would lead to improved revenue generation for the state while plugging financial leakages.
