Naval Officer Arrested for Murder of Former Naval Chief’s Son in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended a Nigerian Navy officer, AbdulRasheed Muhammad, in connection with the murder of Aminu Ibrahim, the son of retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim.

During a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, FCT Commissioner of Police Bennett Igweh confirmed that Muhammad had confessed to the crime, which occurred two weeks ago in the Maitama district of Abuja. The suspect allegedly killed Aminu Ibrahim and stole his Prado SUV, which has since been recovered by the police.

“Two weeks ago, Aminu Ibrahim, the son of Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd), was robbed and killed in Maitama, and his Prado SUV was stolen. I am here to inform you that AbdulRasheed Muhammad, a serving Navy officer, has confessed to committing the murder, and we have successfully recovered the vehicle,” Igweh stated.

Muhammad, who had been deployed as a security guard to the residence of the former naval chief, provided a detailed confession. He recounted how the tragic incident unfolded when Aminu requested security assistance late at night.

“I was assigned to work at the house. That night, around 11:30 p.m., he asked for security as he was planning to go out. I followed him with my gun. Along the way, he stopped at an ATM, as if to withdraw money or purchase something,” Muhammad explained. “At that moment, I got out of the car and shot him, then took the vehicle and fled. He did nothing to provoke me; I killed him just to steal his car,” Muhammad admitted.

In addition to Muhammad’s arrest, the FCT Police Command also paraded 94 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria. These individuals were arrested in connection with the killing of two police officers during a clash on Sunday, reflecting ongoing efforts by the police to maintain order in the capital.
