A tragic bus accident involving a Zimbabwean vehicle occurred in South Africa’s Limpopo province, claiming the lives of 10 people and leaving 35 others injured.
The local transport ministry confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that the victims—five men and five women, believed to be foreign nationals—were traveling to Johannesburg when the crash occurred shortly before midnight on Tuesday.
According to the government’s statement, the bus lost control after speeding over a roundabout, resulting in the vehicle overturning and causing multiple casualties among the passengers.
Authorities also revealed that the driver was inexperienced and unfamiliar with the area, which may have contributed to the crash. The injured passengers were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment.
Despite having one of the most advanced road systems in Africa, South Africa suffers from a high rate of road accidents, often due to reckless driving and poorly maintained vehicles.
In the deadliest road accident in the country this year, 45 people were killed in March when a bus carrying passengers to a religious event veered off a bridge into a ravine.
The government extended condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to remain vigilant and cautious while driving.
