The Osun State Police Command has apprehended a suspect, identified as 29-year-old Damilare Jacob, for alleged armed robbery and rape.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, Damilare, who works as a commercial motorcycle rider, is accused of robbing and sexually assaulting a student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife.
The incident occurred on July 26, 2024, when the student hired Damilare’s services to transport her from Ile-Ife to Moro town.
However, instead of taking her to the destination, Damilare diverted into a nearby bush. He then proceeded to rob the student and sexually assault her, cutting hairs from her pubic area, armpit, and head. Damilare also threatened to harm the student if she reported the incident to anyone.
The victim was later taken to the Police hospital in Osogbo for evaluation and treatment. Following his arrest, the suspect confessed to the heinous crime.
The Osun State Police Command is conducting further investigations, and Damilare Jacob will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
