The Sokoto Youth for Progressive Movement (SYPM), a nongovernmental organization, has called on the federal government to strengthen border security by improving monitoring and regulation of foreign entities operating within Nigeria. The aim is to ensure these entities adhere to the nation’s laws and respect its values.
Mustapha Buda, the Coordinator of SYPM, made this appeal during an interview with Radio Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi. He expressed concern over the prominent display of foreign flags during the recent nationwide protests, which he believes signals potential attempts by foreign entities to destabilize Nigeria, similar to what occurred in Libya, Sudan, and other nations.
Buda emphasized that the organization strongly condemns any form of external interference that threatens Nigeria’s sovereignty and the democratic rights of its citizens. “The presence of foreign flags at a domestic protest and the subsequent arrest of foreign nationals by security agencies only heighten our concerns,” he stated.
The Coordinator urged the federal government to identify and prosecute any foreign individuals and organizations found to be involved in efforts to destabilize the country. He stressed the importance of holding foreign agents accountable, particularly those who are actively working against Nigeria’s stability and sovereignty.
Furthermore, Buda advised that the federal government should formally address these issues with the governments of the countries whose nationals have been implicated in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
